Most important rule is to NOT compress the video. It can eat up your hard drive pretty fast, but the quality remains clear- original. wmv is a bad format, avi is much better. When I work(ed) with animations I used to render in quicktime format. No quality loss at all.
If you are getting horizontal lines in your video, check the deinterlace box.
