How do you change the resolution of a video?

I need to change the resolution, will it change the quality or sound? If not, how would I go about doing this? How do you change the resolution of a video?
Limey L is correct - but there are other ways...

It depends what the source video file is and what you want it to be.

If I don't use a video editor to change the resolution - compression - of the video, then I use MPEG StreamClip

http://www.squared5.com/

If you compress the file, that is %26quot;change resolution%26quot; to make the video file smaller - the video and audio quality can be reduced. That is what compression does by discarding video data. When you apply a LOT of compression, audio can also be impacted by changing from stereo to mono...

Once the resolution is reduced by applying compression, you will not get the resolution back when the video is %26quot;decompressed%26quot; unless you use the original source video. How do you change the resolution of a video?
It's called transcoding.

Easiest way to do it is to import into a video editing program, then export the video with different settings. You can do this using the free trial of Sony Vegas Pro video editing software (works for 30 days), for example.

You can also buy specialized transcoding software. How do you change the resolution of a video?
to transcode, the free way to do it is by using virtualdub, and using the re-size filter to change the resolution. Your sound quality should not change if you do not re-encode sound or choose to re-compress sound at the same bitrate and frequency. video quality should not change much if you do not alter the original bit rate too much.
