How do I change my monitors resolution?

My monitor has a max resolution of 1400x900. In the control panel it does not have that combination and will only let me set to several default aspect ratio's. This is the monitor that came with the computer and it used to be right. I had to re format it and installed all updates from microsoft. Now it will not work. I am using windows xp.

I have a video card out of an old computer that will work to give me the correct aspect ratio, but it slows my computer down to a crawl!! I'd rather find a way to do it like it used to be without the card. How do I change my monitors resolution?
You have to download all of the drivers for that model of computer from the manufacturer and install them.

Once you do that, the computer should work like it did prior to your most recent virus infestation until you get another virus. How do I change my monitors resolution?
Search the video vendor's web site for a profile for the monitor. A lot of times, thay are called %26quot;drivers%26quot;, but really they just define what the monitor can do.

Then, make sure the video card drivers are all updated as well. between the 2, you should be able to get back to 1400x900

A word of warning, some video cards will not support certain resolutions - I had a Nvidia 7300GS card that would not support 1600x900, no matter what I selected (I had the right monitor definitions too)...How do I change my monitors resolution?
First, make sure you have the latest driver for your monitor.... You can check it here....

Right click My Computer %26gt; Properties %26gt; Hardware %26gt; Device Manager %26gt; Monitors

If you see Plug and Play Monitor, then Windows has defaulted a monitor that will work, but not necessarily all the options. So, go to the manufacturers website and download the driver you need for the Operating System... XP, Vista, Win 7, etc....

It sounds like you need to update the video card drivers. Check the computer manufacturer's site, or the card manufacturer's site for updated ones. Sometimes Windows update provides them as well, but they may not be the newest ones. How do I change my monitors resolution?
To have that display you need to install the drives for the monitor (go online and find them) that should fix it up
